The PERMA Model

The PERMA Model is an evidence-based approach that underscores the multifaceted benefits of fostering Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning, and Accomplishment in the recovery process. This approach is designed to ensure early intervention and focuses on creating safe and sustainable recovery and return-to-work strategies aligned with the latest evidences and best practices.

The PERMA model, is an evidence based framework for understanding wellbeing. It stands for:

01

Positive Emotion & Early Intervention

PERMA Recovery prioritises early intervention in the recovery process, recognising that timely support can significantly enhance outcomes.

By integrating Positive Emotion into rehabilitation services, such as fostering optimism, PERMA Recovery leverages the broaden-and-build theory which posits that positive emotions expand cognitive behavioural repertoires, promoting the discovery of creative solutions and building enduring personal resources.

02

Engagement &
Comprehensive Assessments

Utilising a biopsychosocial approach, PERMA Recovery conducts comprehensive assessments that cover physical, psychological, and social factors. These assessments are critical in developing personalised recovery plans that are deeply engaging for the client, addressing specific needs and fostering a proactive attitude towards recovery.

Engaging clients in setting meaningful, personalised goals, ensures that each recovery plan is not only tailored to their physical recovery but also supports their psychological wellbeing.

03

Relationships

& Support Networks

The role of positive relationships is paramount in the recovery process. PERMA Recovery creates a supportive environment by facilitating strong connections among clients, healthcare providers, employers, and support networks.

These relationships provide essential social support that can mitigate distress, enhance recovery, and promote reintegration into the workplace.

04

Meaning & Purpose

Assisting clients in finding meaning and purpose in their work and recovery journey is a key focus.

By aligning recovery goals with the clients' personal values and aspirations, PERMA Recovery supports a sense of purpose and

fulfillment, which have been linked to improved wellbeing.

05

Accomplishment

Plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of progress and achievement, which is particularly valuable in the context of workplace rehabilitation. At PERMA Recovery, we prioritise the establishment of SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable,

Relevant, Time-bound) objectives that serve as clear, attainable milestones throughout the rehabilitation process. The act of setting and achieving goals not only marks tangible steps in a workers' recovery journey but also significantly enhances their motivation and belief in their ability to return to work successfully.
